STEPS TO OBTAINING YOUR ADAPTED VEHICLE LICENCE

Note: This process applies to persons that had a driver’s licence

1. For training, they should have a valid/un-expired drivers license

2. If expired, they should first renew it – puts instructor at risk of training the client without a valid license

3. For re-test, need to report disability to DLTC and request permission for re-test. (Medical declaration)

4. Needs letter from doctor or therapist stating what disability they have, what adaptions they require and whether they are fit to drive

5. Some DLTC’s request affidavit from client stating how they became disabled

6. DLTC sends request to MEC’s office. Supposed to take only 2 weeks to get a reply. DLTC supposed to contact the client once the re-test is approved

No. According to the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 199-chapter IV section 16(2)(b) you should hand your license at the DLT within 21 days after becoming aware of the disqualification so that your license can be cancelled. After your license is cancelled you can then do a re-test so that you obtain your drivers license with applicable restrictions.
The forms for leaners license and Driver license have a declaration at section D explaining the different diseases and disabilities?
No, however the DLT should issue you with a temporary learner’s license with the relevant restrictions, so that you can be able to do your drivers lessons with a qualified instructor using the DLT listed restrictions

Well, South African Driver’s License have 2 main restrictions besides the different diving codes (code 02/08/10/14) the restrictions are:  Drivers  0= none  1 =glasses  2= artificial limb  Vehicle/Car  0= none  1 = Automatic  2= electrical powered  3= physical disabled When you choose to continue driving with your current license, you as the driver are already move from 0=none (no restriction) to 2= artificial limb (restricted). Depending on the type injury and disability the vehicle can 1= Automatic only (restricted only) or 3= physical disabled.
Yes, QASA is able to offer sponsorship after accessing your application. The salary ranges for sponsorship are as follows:  Salary range above ≤R10 000: 0% sponsorship from QASA  Salary range above ≤R8 000: 20% sponsorship from QASA  Salary range above ≤R6 000: 40% sponsorship from QASA  Salary range above ≤R4 000: 60% sponsorship from QASA  Salary range above ≤R2 000: 80% sponsorship from QASA  Salary range above ≥R2 000: 100% sponsorship from QASA
Yes, after your membership application to QASA and your application form is accessed by QASA. An assessment with Rolling Rehab with an occupational therapist to access if it is possible for you to drive.
Frist you do a leaners license, with the same study material and academic content as any other test. However, the leaners license should state the correct restrictions. This will be very helpful when the student is doing driving lessons with a driving instructor  After the person is assessed by the DLT for driver test and a driver’s license with the applicable restrictions will be issued by the DLT.
